Llandudno in Autumn and Winter: Why the Quiet Season Is the Best Season

by | Oct 3, 2026 | About Llandudno

Summer gets all the attention, but ask anyone who lives here and they’ll tell you autumn and winter are when Llandudno is at its best. The crowds have gone, the light over the bay is beautiful, and there’s nothing quite like a bracing walk along the prom followed by a cosy evening in. Here’s why we love the quiet season – and why it’s a great time for a break.

Here’s why autumn and winter breaks in Llandudno are well worth considering.

Beaches to yourself

On a crisp autumn morning you can walk the whole length of North Shore and barely see another soul. West Shore is wonderful on a clear winter afternoon, with low sun across the Conwy estuary and some of the best sunsets in North Wales. Wrap up warm and bring a flask.

Storm watching and big skies

When the wind gets up, the sea along the promenade puts on a real show. Watching the waves from the prom (from a safe distance!) and then heading indoors to warm up is one of our favourite winter rituals.

Walks on the Great Orme

The Great Orme is glorious in autumn, with bracken turning copper and views stretching to Anglesey and the mountains of Eryri. The Marine Drive loop is easy going, or head up to the summit for a longer walk. See our best walks in Llandudno for routes. Some attractions such as the tramway are seasonal, so check times before you set off.

Cosy evenings

Llandudno’s pubs, cafés and restaurants are at their friendliest out of season, and many have real fires. Catch a show at Venue Cymru on the promenade, or simply stay in: our 3-Bed Townhouse has a flame-effect electric fire and comfy sofas made for lazy evenings. Events worth planning around

Llandudno’s firework display on the North Shore usually takes place in early November, and December brings the Christmas Parade, festive events along Mostyn Street and the Venue Cymru pantomime. Check Visit Conwy’s What’s On for this year’s dates.
