Great Orme Tramway

Built in 1902, the Great Orme Tramway is one of the last cable-operated tramways in Great Britain and one of very few still in operation around the world. This makes it a truly unique attraction.

From Victoria Station, the tram ascends 1500m to the Great Orme Country Park and Nature Reserve. To reach the summit of the Great Orme, you can change trams at the Halfway Station. At the summit, you will find breathtaking views. There is a chance of seeing the Isle of Man, Blackpool, and the Lake District on a clear day!

Visiting the Summit Complex with your family is the best way to spend time together. You can enjoy a cafe, gift shop, park and mini golf course.

The Great Orme Tramway is definitely one of the must things to do in Llandudno.

West Shore Beach

Llandudno West Shore Beach looks out over Conwy Sands from below the Great Orme limestone headland. Kite surfing and kite buggying can both be enjoyed on this beach due to its extensive shallow water and extensive sands at low tide.

There are stunning views over Conwy and out towards Anglesey, and it is less crowded than the more developed North Shore beach. There is also a cafe with parking and toilet facilities by the beach.

Great Orme Copper Mines

Great Orme & Copper Mines

Llandudno is home to the Great Orme Mines, which contain 5 miles of tunnels and passageways. In 2005, the Guinness World Records team named it the world’s largest prehistoric copper mine.

During a landscaping project on the Great Orme in 1987, copper mines were discovered below the surface, representing one of the most astonishing archaeological discoveries in recent time.

Taking a trip to the Great Orme Mines is a fun and educational experience that can be enjoyed by children and adults of all ages. Through the tunnels mined out over 3,500 years ago, visitors can experience the harsh conditions our prehistoric ancestors faced while searching for copper. During the tour, you will get a chance to visit the amazing Bronze Age Cavern, which was dug out by miners using nothing more than stone and bone tools over 3,500 years ago.

Happy Valley Gardens

On the side of the Great Orme in Llandudno is Happy Valley, a nature reserve filled with animals and plants, a putting green, a ski slope, and a cable car base station.

There is a large grass area in the lower part of the park, which is ideal for picnics and for playing with the dog, and which offers spectacular sea views of Llandudno Pier.

A paved walkway leads through Happy Valley above the large, grassy area, up through the trees and past exotic plants and ponds with beautiful views all along the way! The park is home to different types of wildlife and plants.

There are many Alice in Wonderland statues scattered around Happy Valley (and the rest of Llandudno). Pick up a town trail map from the visitor centre or download the interactive app so you can follow the white rabbit and find them all!
