One of the great joys of a self catering holiday is the freedom to eat out when you fancy and cook when you don’t. Llandudno has a fantastic range of restaurants, cafes and takeaways to suit every taste and budget — and as local hosts, we’ve tried most of them! Here are our personal recommendations, the same ones we share in our guest welcome book at all our holiday apartments and holiday lets.
Our Personal Favourites
Ormo Lounge
Our current number one. Recently opened in May 2023, Ormo Lounge has quickly become our go-to recommendation for guests. It’s a vibrant, quirky space with a fantastic atmosphere — think eclectic decor, buzzing energy, and a menu that really delivers. We particularly love the tapas, which is perfect for sharing, and the cocktails are absolutely fabulous. If you’re looking for somewhere with a bit of personality, this is it.
The Cottage Loaf
Another firm personal favourite. The Cottage Loaf has everything you’d hope for from a traditional Welsh country pub — open fires, wooden beams, old heavy furniture, colourful gardens, great cask ales and hearty homemade food served with a friendly smile. It’s cosy, welcoming and utterly reliable. Whether you pop in for a pint or settle in for a full meal, you’ll leave happy. A Llandudno institution that never disappoints.
Great Restaurants for a Special Night Out
The White Tower
Don’t let the name put you off — this Greek restaurant is absolutely amazing. The food is authentic, the portions are generous and the staff are wonderfully friendly. If you happen to be visiting on a Monday, it’s even more special: Monday night is authentic Greek dancing night, which is enormous fun and makes for a genuinely memorable evening out. Highly recommended for groups and families looking for a lively, celebratory meal.
Romeos Italian Restaurant
A Llandudno favourite that has stood the test of time. Romeos has been serving authentic Italian food for over 25 years and remains hugely popular with both locals and visitors. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the food is consistently excellent, and it’s the kind of place where you immediately feel at home. Book ahead if you’re visiting in peak season — it fills up quickly and for very good reason.
The Seahorse Seafood Bistro
For seafood lovers, the Seahorse is an absolute must. Chef Don is a keen fisherman himself, and that passion comes through clearly in the menu — the focus is on the freshest local catch, simply and expertly prepared. If you’re staying in Llandudno and you enjoy fish and seafood, this is the place to go. The quality is outstanding and the setting is charming.
Casual Dining and Family-Friendly Options
LC Wine and Dine
A great all-rounder that suits families, couples and groups equally well. LC Wine and Dine serves a fantastic Sunday carvery available all day — perfectly roasted meats, crispy potatoes, fresh vegetables and all the trimmings. Their regular menu is a well-judged mix of classic British dishes and modern favourites, all made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Reliable, good value and consistently good.
Home Cooking
A family-run restaurant that has been going strong since 1979 — which tells you everything you need to know. Home Cooking serves generous portions of great food with a wide variety of dishes to suit all tastes. They serve food all day including afternoon tea, light bites and a children’s menu, making it an excellent choice for families with young children or those looking for a relaxed, unfussy meal at any time of day.
Characters Tea House and Hot Stone Cafe
A wonderfully quirky cafe that serves lunch, brunch, afternoon tea and dinner alongside a wide selection of homemade cakes and scones. The atmosphere is charming and individual — exactly the sort of independent place that makes Llandudno special. One brilliant bonus: Characters is BYO (bring your own alcohol) with no corkage charge, which makes it a fantastic option for a relaxed dinner without the drinks bill. A real hidden gem.
Johnny Dough’s Wood-Fired Pizza
Llandudno’s home of wood-fired pizza and consistently one of the most popular places in town. Pizzas are created to order using delicious local ingredients and baked right in front of you in the wood-fired oven — the smell alone is irresistible. Available to eat in or take away, and they cater brilliantly for vegans and coeliacs too. A great option for a casual, crowd-pleasing evening meal, especially with children.
